A marble saddle is the stone transition piece set in a doorway or opening where two floor finishes meet. Cut from white marble and finished on the exposed faces and edges, it covers the joint between tile and an adjoining floor, hides the substrate and the edge of the tile, and gives the opening a finished stone line that wears better than metal or wood trim.

Saddles of this type are typically set in thinset over the prepared subfloor at the door line, with the perimeter sealed with silicone or grout so water is kept from migrating between rooms. The common use is the bathroom threshold, where the stone also acts as a low curb against splash-out, but the same piece works at any tile-to-tile or tile-to-hardwood change.

As a natural stone, white marble carries veining and tone variation from piece to piece, so pieces are best selected and dry-laid together. Marble is calcareous and reacts to acids, so a penetrating sealer and pH-neutral cleaners are the normal maintenance approach.
