A moulded vinyl stair tread used to surface the walking area of a step, most often over concrete, steel pan or worn wooden stairs. The square-nose profile finishes flush at the front edge of the step rather than wrapping a rounded bullnose, which suits pan-filled and poured stairs where the leading edge is straight and sharp.

Vinyl treads are installed in a bed of stair-tread adhesive and trimmed to the width of the run. The material is resilient underfoot, holds up to heavy traffic in commercial stairwells and can be swept, damp-mopped and maintained like other resilient flooring. Black is the common utility colour in service stairs and back-of-house runs.

Sold individually, so counts are figured one per step plus any allowance for cuts and waste.
