A corner block is a square decorative element set at the upper corners of door and window casing. The head and side casings butt into the block rather than meeting in a mitre, so the joint is square-cut and simple to fit, and any seasonal movement in the casing is far less visible than it would be in an open mitre.

This block is milled from finger-jointed or solid pine and comes factory primed, so it needs only light sanding and a finish coat of paint to match adjacent trim. It is sized to work with standard flat casing profiles and is fastened with finish nails and adhesive.

Key Features

  • Primed pine block, ready for topcoat paint after light sanding
  • Square block eliminates mitred corners at casing heads
  • Square-cut casing joints are easier to fit than mitres and hide seasonal movement better
  • Pine takes finish nails and paint readily and machines cleanly
  • Thickness lets adjoining casing butt into the block face for a raised detail
  • Sold individually, so counts can be matched to opening layout

Applications

  • Upper corners of door casing in traditional and Victorian trim schemes
  • Window casing head corners with flat stock casing
  • Trim-out of cased openings and passageways
  • Renovation and millwork repair matching existing block-and-casing detail
  • Paint-grade interior trim carpentry
