DRYLOK Original Concrete & Masonry Waterproofer is a latex-base coating for bare masonry that is meant to stop water rather than simply decorate the wall. Unlike a masonry paint, which sits on the surface, it is brushed or rolled into the pores of the substrate so the cured film bridges into the block or concrete and blocks water pushing through from the other side.

The manufacturer rates the Original formula to hold back water at pressures up to 10 psi and to resist 98 mph wind-driven rain, with a semi-impermeable film of less than 1 perm that keeps both liquid water and vapor out. It is applied in a minimum of two coats, the first worked in with a stiff brush, and carries a 10-year warranty when used per the label directions.

Surface prep governs the result: the masonry must be clean, free of paint, form release and efflorescence, and profiled roughly like medium-grit sandpaper, with cracks and floor-to-wall joints patched with a hydraulic cement plug beforehand. The gray ready-mixed color dries flat with a sandy texture and can be tinted in store or top-coated with latex paint after 24 hours.
