APP 160 Cool is a torch-applied modified bitumen cap sheet used as the finish ply of a low-slope built-up roof assembly. APP (atactic polypropylene) modifiers give the asphalt a plastic character that softens predictably under a torch flame and flows into a bond with the ply sheet or base sheet below, so the membrane is installed in a continuous, fully sealed field.

The sheet carries a factory-applied granule surface on the weathering face. On a "cool" designation the granules are light in colour, which reflects a portion of the solar energy striking the roof rather than absorbing it as a black surface does. The granules also shield the bitumen from ultraviolet exposure and give the finished roof a walkable, abrasion-resistant top surface.

It is supplied in rolls, selvage edge along one side for lapping, and is installed over a compatible base or ply sheet on a suitably prepared deck.
