A baluster shoe is the small collar that conceals the joint where a baluster meets the tread, shoe rail or handrail. It slips over the square baluster stock and covers the hole, cut or gap at the connection, giving the transition a finished edge without additional trim work.

This is the rake version, shaped for the angled runs of a stair rather than a level balcony section. The seat is cut on the pitch so the shoe sits flat against a sloped shoe rail or handrail while the baluster stays plumb. Most shoes are fastened with a small set screw or pin through the collar, or glued and pinned in place, and are installed before the baluster is finally secured.

Sized for 1/2 in. square baluster stock and sold individually, so counts can be matched to the baluster layout for a given stair.
