5/4 in. x 12 in. x 36 in. Solid Oak Stair Tread
A solid red-oak stair tread milled from edge-glued hardwood stock, sized for a standard residential stair run. The front edge is shaped with a rounded bullnose that overhangs the riser below, the traditional profile for a finished wood stair.
Oak is the usual species for exposed treads because of its hardness and open grain, which takes stain and clear finish evenly and wears well under foot traffic. Treads ship unfinished so the stain, sealer or polyurethane can be matched to the risers, skirt boards, railing and surrounding flooring on site.
Treads are cut to length on the job to suit the actual stair width, then bedded in construction adhesive and fastened or trimmed with a nosing return where the open side of the stair is exposed.
Key Features
- Solid oak construction throughout, not a veneered or laminated tread
- Rounded bullnose front edge for the overhang at each step
- Supplied unfinished for on-site staining, sealing or clear coating
- Closed-grain hardwood surface that resists denting and foot traffic wear
- Sanded faces ready for finish with minimal prep
- Can be cut to length and mitered for nosing returns on open-sided stairs
- Sold individually so tread counts can be matched to the stair run
