5-1/2 in. x 50 ft. Foam Sill Sealer Roll
Sill sealer is a thin closed-cell polyethylene foam gasket laid between the top of a concrete or masonry foundation wall and the wood sill plate. Concrete is never perfectly flat, and the foam compresses into the high and low spots to close the gap that would otherwise let air, insects and windblown moisture pass into the floor framing.
It also acts as a capillary break, separating the treated plate from damp masonry so moisture is not drawn directly into the wood. The roll unwinds along the top of the wall ahead of the plate and the anchor bolts punch straight through it; the sill plate is then set and tightened down over the foam, which stays compressed under the load of the framing above.
The same material is used under bottom plates on slabs and behind trim or framing wherever a compressible gasket is wanted between wood and concrete.
Key Features
- Closed-cell polyethylene foam that will not wick or absorb water
- Compresses to conform to the irregular surface of a poured or block foundation wall
- Seals the sill plate joint against air infiltration and windblown dust and insects
- Acts as a capillary break between masonry and wood framing
- Anchor bolts and hold-downs push through the foam without tearing the roll apart
- Supplied as a continuous roll that unrolls along the wall and tears or cuts by hand
Applications
- Between foundation walls and wood sill plates in new construction
- Under bottom plates of interior and exterior walls framed on slab
- Sealing the rim joist and sill line against air leakage
- Garage and basement wall framing set on concrete
