Lauan is a thin tropical hardwood plywood valued for its smooth, tight face veneer and light weight. The face sands clean and takes paint, contact adhesive and plastic laminate well, which is why it has long been the default underlayment and substrate panel on interior work.

Panels are flexible enough to follow gentle curves and cut easily with a circular saw or utility knife scored along a straightedge. As an interior-grade panel it is not intended for exposure to weather or standing moisture, and it should be kept dry and flat before installation.
