Clear pine board is solid softwood trim stock milled from stock selected to be free of knots and other visible defects, leaving a smooth, uniform face on both sides. The clear grade is what separates it from common or knotty pine: there are no knots to bleed through paint, telegraph through a finish, or interrupt a router profile.

Pine is soft and straight-grained, so it cuts, rips, planes and nails cleanly with ordinary carpentry tools and holds a crisp edge when moulded or rabbeted. It takes primer and paint well and can be stained, though softwood grain absorbs stain unevenly unless conditioned first. Boards are surfaced four sides, so the nominal thickness and width are larger than the actual dressed dimensions.

Typical use is interior finish carpentry where the piece will be painted or clear-coated and where an appearance-grade face matters more than structural strength. It is not a framing or load-carrying material.
