Quarter round is a small convex trim profile with a quarter-circle face and two flat backs set at 90 degrees. It is installed in the inside corner between baseboard and finish flooring, or in any other right-angle joint where a gap needs to be covered and a soft transition is wanted.

This piece carries the #39 pattern number and comes primed, so the surface is already sealed and ready for filling, sanding and a finish coat of paint. Priming also reduces the raising of grain and swelling that bare trim can suffer before it is painted.

Quarter round is fastened with finish nails or brads driven through the face into the base or the wall framing rather than into the flooring, so that floating or expanding floors can still move. Joints are cut at 45 degrees for inside and outside corners and scarfed on long runs.
