A metal access door provides a finished, removable opening in a wall or ceiling so plumbing valves, cleanouts, shutoffs, electrical junctions, ductwork and other concealed services stay reachable after the assembly is closed in. The unit consists of a formed metal frame that is set into the rough opening and a hinged panel that swings clear of the frame for full access.

The frame is fastened to the surrounding framing or furring, and the door leaf hangs on a concealed or continuous hinge so it sits flush with the face of the frame when closed. A cam or screwdriver-operated latch holds the panel shut against casual opening. Steel construction with a factory prime or painted finish allows the flange and panel to be field-painted to match the surrounding wall.
