Gypsum wallboard panel with a noncombustible gypsum core faced in paper, used as the finish surface for interior walls and ceilings. The 3/8 in. thickness is the lighter of the common board thicknesses and is generally used for resurfacing over existing wall surfaces and for curved or radius work, where a thinner panel bends more readily than 1/2 in. board.

The panels have tapered long edges so that joint compound and tape sit slightly below the face plane and finish flush. Board is fastened to wood or steel framing with drywall screws or nails, then taped, coated and sanded to the desired level of finish before priming.

Cutting is done by scoring the face paper with a utility knife, snapping the core and cutting the back paper, so no power tools are required for most layout work.
