Vinyl stair treads are molded rubber-like walking surfaces applied over concrete, wood or metal stair pans to give a finished, slip-resistant step. This one is a square-nose profile, meaning the front edge is a straight 90-degree return rather than a rounded or beveled bullnose, so it suits stairs with a square-edged leading edge and no overhang to wrap.

The tread is set in epoxy or tread adhesive over a clean, level substrate and rolled out to bed the full contact surface. The gray color is solid through the body of the material, so surface wear does not expose a contrasting core. Treads are commonly paired with matching vinyl or rubber risers and cove base to complete a stairwell.
