L-bead is an L-shaped drywall trim used to finish an exposed panel edge where the board stops against a dissimilar surface — a window or door jamb, a beam, a masonry wall or an existing ceiling. The short return leg wraps the cut edge of the board while the wider flange lies on the panel face, giving a straight line to run joint compound against.

Unlike corner bead, L-bead has no outside-corner return, so it is used where only one face needs to be finished. It is nailed, screwed, stapled or clinched through the face flange, then coated with compound and feathered into the board. The exposed edge of the trim is typically caulked where it meets the adjoining material to allow for slight movement and to close the joint against air and dust.

This piece is sized for 5/8 in. board thickness and supplied in 10 ft. lengths, the standard trim length for wall and ceiling runs.
