White sand is a fine, light-colored silica sand supplied in a bag for mixing on site. It works as the fine aggregate in mortar, grout and concrete mixes where the finished color matters, since a white or near-white sand keeps light-tinted and white cement mixes from turning gray.

As a graded fine aggregate it is blended with cement or lime binders in the proportions called for by the mix design, or used loose as a leveling and bedding material. Dry bagged sand can be stored and metered out by the bag, which makes proportioning small batches straightforward.
