A main beam hanger is the connector that ties a suspended ceiling main runner back to the structure above. It is installed at the hanger points along each main beam and accepts hanger wire or a threaded rod, transferring the weight of the grid and panels up to the deck, joists or other overhead support.

Hangers of this type are used where the grid layout calls for a fixed drop or a positive mechanical attachment at the beam rather than a simple wire loop through the runner web. Spacing of hanger points along the main beams and the method of attachment overhead are set by the ceiling system manufacturer's installation instructions and by the project drawings.
