A convex wall door stop is a surface-mounted bumper that takes the impact of a swinging door before the knob, lever or door edge reaches the wall. The domed (convex) bumper projects out from a small base plate so the door face makes contact squarely and comes to a controlled stop, sparing drywall, tile, chair rail and the door's own trim hardware.

Wall stops of this type are fastened through the base into the wall at the point where the door strikes. Solid blocking or a stud gives the best result; in hollow drywall the fastener should be set in a suitable anchor, since the stop absorbs the full momentum of the door each time it opens. Mounting height is normally set to align with the lock or push hardware on the door face.
