DRYLOK Original Masonry Waterproofer is a latex-based, brush- or roller-applied coating that seals bare concrete and masonry against water seepage. Unlike a masonry paint, which sits on the surface as a film, a waterproofer of this type is worked into the pores and pinholes of the substrate, where it bonds and blocks the capillary paths water travels through block, brick and poured walls.

The manufacturer classifies it as a semi-impermeable coating that keeps both water and vapor out, rated at under 1 perm, and states it stops water up to 10 psi and resists 98 mph hurricane winds when applied to a properly prepared bare masonry surface. Coverage is 75 to 100 square feet per gallon depending on substrate porosity, with a minimum of two coats required; it dries to touch in about 1.5 hours and recoats in two to three hours.

The finish is a flat white with a sandy texture that can be tinted in store or top-coated with latex paint after 24 hours. Cleanup is with soap and water. Surfaces must be free of grease, oil, form release and efflorescence, and smooth concrete should be acid-etched to open the pores before the first coat goes on.
