As the door opens, the upper and lower arms close on each other until an adjustable bumper screw makes contact and arrests the swing. Backing the screw out shortens the opening arc, running it in lets the door travel farther, so the stopping point can be tuned on site to the wall, casing or furniture the door would otherwise strike. A resilient tip on the contact point softens the stop and quiets the impact.
