A door viewer and mechanical chime combined into a single through-door unit. The outside plate carries a wide-angle lens and a chime actuator; the matching inside plate carries the eyepiece and the chime mechanism, so a caller announces themselves and the occupant identifies them without unlocking or opening the door.

The chime is mechanical rather than electric. Turning or pressing the exterior actuator strikes a two-note chime on the inside of the door, which means no transformer, no low-voltage wiring and no batteries are involved, and nothing has to be run back to a bell box. That makes the unit a practical retrofit for apartment and rental entry doors that were never wired for a doorbell.

Installation is the same as any bored door viewer: a hole through the door leaf, the two plates aligned and drawn together with the barrel or through-bolts, and no mortising of the frame. The finish is one of the standard architectural door-hardware finishes so the unit can be matched to existing locksets and hinges.
