No. 30 Roofing Felt Paper
No. 30 felt paper is an asphalt-saturated organic or fiberglass mat underlayment used beneath shingles, slate, tile and metal roofing. The heavier No. 30 weight is stiffer and more tear-resistant than No. 15, so it holds up better to foot traffic during installation and to longer exposure while a roof is being dried in.
Rolls are laid horizontally from the eave up, lapped so water runs over each course, and fastened with roofing nails or cap nails. Once covered, the felt acts as a secondary water shedding layer and separates the roofing material from the deck.
Key Features
- No. 30 weight asphalt-saturated felt, heavier and more puncture resistant than No. 15
- Serves as a secondary water-shedding layer under shingles and other steep-slope roofing
- Separates roofing material from the wood deck, reducing resin staining and telegraphing of deck irregularities
- Lays flat and holds fasteners well, allowing installation with roofing nails or cap nails
- Lapped courses run parallel to the eave so water is shed over each successive layer
- Supplied in a roll for continuous coverage across the deck
Applications
