A dome stop is the simplest piece of door hardware there is: a solid, rigid bumper that fastens to the floor behind a swinging door and takes the impact before the knob or lever reaches the wall. There are no springs, hinges or moving parts to fatigue, which is why dome stops are the default choice on interior doors in apartments, offices and houses where a wall-mounted bumper would land on hollow drywall rather than a stud.

This one is Tuff Stuff's 6722BP, a high dome pattern in a brass plated finish supplied on a retail card. The high dome profile raises the contact point above the floor covering, so the stop still meets the door face cleanly over carpet, pad or a thick underlayment where a low dome would be partly buried. It installs with a fastener driven through the center of the dome into the subfloor or sill, and the plated finish lines up visually with brass knobs, hinges and strike plates elsewhere on the opening.

Key Features

• High dome pattern, which places the contact face higher off the floor than a low dome stop for clearance over carpet and pad
• Brass plated finish to match brass door knobs, hinges and other trim hardware
• Rigid, one-piece design with no springs or hinged parts to loosen or break
• Floor mounted through the center of the dome, so the fastener pulls straight down into solid subfloor rather than into hollow drywall
• Arrests the door swing before the knob, lever or escutcheon strikes the wall surface
• Low silhouette that stays clear of foot traffic and vacuum heads compared with hook-and-keeper holders
• Supplied carded for hanging retail display

Applications

• Interior passage and privacy doors in houses and apartments
• Carpeted rooms where the stop must reach above the pile to meet the door
• Bedroom, closet and pantry doors that swing toward a finished wall
• Office and light commercial interiors fitted with brass-finish door hardware
• Protecting drywall, baseboard and wall tile from repeated knob strikes
• Multifamily turnover and punch-list hardware replacement
